For the 1892 exhibiting companies and some 100,000 professional visitors from all the different continents, BASELWORLD 2011 constitutes the most significant industry rendezvous of the year.

The world’s most important show for the watch and jewellery industry is opening its doors in Basel on Thursday, March 24, 2011. Covering an area of 160,000 m2, BASELWORLD is the biggest exhibition held in Switzerland. With the innovations and trends that are being presented, BASELWORLD will be confirming its topmost position globally as the leading fair for the watch and jewellery industry.

The show will be opened by Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter. For the show management, it is a great honour that India’s Minister for Commerce and Industry, Anand Sharma, is coming to Basel especially for the opening of BASELWORLD. This illustrates the standing that the show enjoys throughout the world. Messrs. Burkhalter and Sharma will be accompanied by Christoph Brutschin (Councillor of the Canton of Basel-Stadt), Jacques J. Duchêne (President of the Exhibitors’ Committee), René Kamm (CEO of MCH Group) and further guests.

High expectations

After the economic recovery gathered pace last year, and the downturn in the luxury goods industry has been overcome, expectations for the current year, and hence also for BASELWORLD as the industry’s highlight, are running especially high.

At BASELWORLD 2011, 1892 exhibitors from the watch and jewellery sector, representing a total of 45 countries, will be showcasing their latest models and collections at the highest level. And, for a large number of these exhibiting companies, BASELWORLD is the only exhibition that they attend.

During the show, around 100,000 professional visitors and some 3000 media representatives from 100 countries are expected in Basel.
